PDNC Conference Call Minutes 7/18/07
On the call: Pete,
Matilda, Isaac, Delmas, George and Heide. John ___ joined in later.
First Order of Business: Where PDNC will meet at SEC Aug 25th.
Pay for
it? Delmas suggested a contribution
might be in order. Delmas will contact
Sallie Leslie.
Isaac will
chair the meeting in Pete’s absence.
Pete brought up for discussion about resolutions and what we
should do regarding new ones we may have. Delmas said that Wayne Goodwin is starting the process of going around
the state for input. Discussion about
how resolutions would be addressed by the NCDP Platform & Resolutions
Committee- i.e., new resolutions. Pete
asked if we should/would come up with new ones for the SEC and what is the
process. Delmas referred to a proposed
resolution by Stan Nutter on the Israeli/Palestinian situation and suggested
that we could bring that to the floor of the SEC.
Delmas said that there is a proposed change in the way
resolutions are to be brought forth. He
mentioned county, state and Liaison Committees. Pete suggested that the county organizations should be urged to become
more involved in the process. He asked
for the top 10 issues or resolutions that should come from the PDNC.
Matilda, Delmas and Pete digressed and talked about the
importance/non-importance of using Roberts’ Rules of Order and its influence on
voting on resolutions. George said that
some rules are necessary.
Pete led the discussion on the annual meeting. Among the venues mentioned were
UU of
Episcopal
Church in
-- $1200 (seats more)
$?? Matilda to continue to call.
Pat
Smathers and Dan Besse would like to be with us. Isaac suggested a forum by the Lt. Gov
candidates and that the PDNC endorse one.
John suggested that chapters hold a movie event and charge
$10 above normal ticket prices to raise some money.
Back to discussion of the convention: Heide will contact Laura Flanders. The Reverend Barbour has the convention as a
strong tentative appointment. Matilda
will contact Former Senator Mike Gravel’s campaign. Amy Goodman has an opening on Friday
evening.
Saturday plans are to have a panel discussion on current
issues. Among those suggested to serve
on it are the following: Joe Sitzheimer,
who attacked Verla Insco (verbally), Bob Hall, Bob Geary. Chris Fitzsimon, Paul
Leubke, Ellie Kinnard, Verla Insco, Pricey Harrison, Janet Crowell, Doug Berger
and Jerry Meek as moderator. Larry Hall
and Ty Harrell were mentioned as possibilities and something about a CIA
entertainer.
